This was the first of this Author's books I've read. It wasn't bad. It does need a good editor, and certainly there is an overuse of some words throughout, but at this price point- I've read much worse. Newer books of his have better overall reviews, and the one I finished last night was better written, overall. But this one... not bad. Or at least, could be worse ;)I really enjoyed the storyline and premise, though I wish Bryan and gone into more detail as to what exactly this creature WAS. The characters did seem a little... manufactured and textbook. There were no major twists or 'shockers', which makes it fairly predictable.
How the creature 'ended' did not bother me at all. It ends as many horror monsters do - which is with an opening for a sequel. That doesn't bother me, and I did like the overall ending for the characters (aside from the fact it was obvious from the get-go who was going to survive ;) )
Overall, 3 stars - not bad, not great, but it's okay.

RIG A Novel of Terror edition by Bryan Alaspa Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
The premise sounded good, but it turned out bad.
Characters weren't created by any means at all. To be blunt about it they were all video game characters, literally I was sitting there reading and recognized game characters. And the author does a half assed job of mixing the characters names up.
Essentially nothing more than a fan fiction.
Characters aside the pacing was ok, but the author assumes a lot of false things about tactics and weapons but that neither here nor there.
Final analysis, unless you like bad fan fiction about Kratos and Cammy pass.
The Rig is like Phantoms you know the movie I forgotten who wrote the book oh well but like Phantoms the movie it takes place on a oil platform people call a oil rig. It has mystery and suspense horror and action. With great ending with revenge.
It starts with ear splitting death to a really Big Bang. Self explanatory when read. Ha ha ha! Well people may the fright be with you.
Sounds like I like it.
I don't usually write reviews. I just love to read. A lot!!! Anyway, here goes. The errors.... My G**! Who proof read this? The story line...let's just say Bryan, please go back to the story line. It is just to cliche, no real plot, could have been thought out so much more than this! There were a few original ideas but just not enough to get this a decent rating. I wasted time reading this!!!
I normally read reviews before buying an item or e-book. The one time I didn't. left me with deepest remorse. I have to agree with all the negative reviews..the editing is non-existent.
The story was actually a fair one. It took a degree of intelligence to write, a degree of imagination. So how can anyone so smart be so stupid? It wasn't just one or two typo's, it was a disgrace! I started to get brain freeze which each error. Not just typo's either, but grammatical. There were even errors which should have been picked up by spell check. Huh?
The only consolation was that I only paid 99 cents for it. And believe me, I overpaid.
Do yourself a huge favor, skip this book. Save yourself from a brain hemorrhage.
I love to read. A good story can cost me days worth of sleep. Fortumately, I was able to catch up on that sleep with Mr. Alaspa's book. Before I get into its flaws, Mary-Sues, and holes, let me first say that the story was inspired, and had it been proof-read and edited properly, it would have been really good.
The two major flaws this book had are in its grammar, spelling, and punctuation and in the characters themselves.
Alaspa uses the word "and" way more often than he should, up to three and even four times in a single sentence. good authors will find ways to avoid words like and completely, something Alaspa does not do. Eventually the reader gets buried in an avalanche of run-ons and poor explanations. Couple this with spelling errors more befitting a text message and any learned person would openly weep for the novel as an art form.
The other issue that truly bugged me were the bland, overdone characters we've all seen a hundred times before. Even the central characters are more befitting a one shot in the background of a mediocre anime than a written tale. Couple that with a half-assed attempt at these strange things called "feelings" and I found myself praying for a bloody end to them all on every page, followed by an apology from the author for wasting my time.
This is the kind of thing I expect from some one just trying to get the certificate for NaNoWriMo. I am completely disappointed.
This read was a real page turner. Sorry, I failed to find several errors and I am an English major. Enough of that. I found this read to be right up my preferences for an escape. Characters that I found to actually care about, good story line, foot stomping when something bad happened, in short, if you want a good read to just get away from the day, read this. You will not regret it..... or maybe you will.
For a short book where you have to get to point quickly the story is well thought out, and moves along a fare pace. My big problem with this book was the abundance of typing errors, and poorly arranged sentences. It drove me crazy. Like the author was thinking too far ahead of his typing skills. There was obviously no proof reading. Plus one of the most important weapons in the story goes into the sea in a helicopter, but don't panic! The main character runs out on deck a couple chapters later and retrieves the the weapon from the copter anyway.
Was the story line good ? Yes Was it worth the agonizing miss use of punctuation, and poorly constructed sentences? No
I've read a lot of straight to kindle stories, and expect some typos. Nobody is perfect, but this writer truly is the worst so far.
