Just in time for the Avengers movie!
What if the greatest heroes on Earth were teamed up to take on the world’s biggest threats?
Or at least whoever was available was thrown together to deal with some shizzle?
In their Avengers-parodying debut, the mysterious WHITE OUT has brought together a dysfunctional bunch of heroes - MAXI-TRON, MS. F, MASON, NITE FANG and...STEFANOS - to take down ‘threats to America’ - sending them on missions that have comedic nods to all the big Marvel events of recent years, from Civil War to Secret Invasion, SIEGE to Fear Itself!
Action! Adventure! Comedy! Werewolves! Testicular Cancer! Playaz! Nazi Robots! And much more await you in the awesome pages of The Almighties!

This is a very entertaining work, well written and well drawn. The author seems to wish to go the way of Time/Warner DC Comics and Disney Marvel Comics, including the use of grawlix. (Grawlix are those %$@ing little symbols used to take the place of mother*^%$#ing naughty words. The more you know....) Of course, I support the author's and editor's right to make this decision, I just find it a bit tiresome. However, the story is well told as a series of vignettes relating the origin of the team, and it's members. The characters are all of the heroic archetypes, as one might imagine, such as the strong one, the man of mystery, the female member, etc. One thing that I find particularly enjoyable is that most of the heroes are the "everyman" type, a quality missing from most Marvel and DC characters. I have a lot of trouble sympathizing with a zillionaire god-like person with unbelievably high connections and universe shaking abilities who decide to do nothing more with their wealth and power than to go out and beat up bad guys. And most of these characters avoid this, making them more intriguing, by default.
I look forward to reading more issues of this title, and finding out more about The Almighties.
