Carole Avila has written more than just a romantic story in Eve's Amulet. It is obvious that she has done her research as the plot takes Mandy into the past (time travel) via a strange amulet she finds as a result of a psychic's reading (mystery, occultism), landing her in 1800s Texas ranch (historical fiction). Ms. Avila has a wonderful literary voice throughout the novel; her characters are complex and well developed, and the way in which she describes the settings and even everyday objects makes you feel like you are present at the very moment events are taking place. I was given this book for an honest review.
Mandy finds a magic amulet and gets taken back in time. She possesses the body of Carmena, a woman in charge of a ranch in the 1800's. Many conflicts and adventures await her, and also love.
If you're looking for a good, meaty read full of adventure, detailed and historical setting, great characterisation mixed with fantasy, look no further. This is a well-written, fast-paced, evenly-paced, and fascinating book. You'll be kept on your toes. There's constant action without losing the emotion and drama. Secondary characters are lively and interesting. The love story was touching without being soppy and cliche. I learned a fair amount about the history of Texas and Mexico during that era. Also about the way people lived.
I loved the heroine and the way she grew up and became her true self through her experiences. Each important character had a great and rewarding character arc.
I'm really looking forward to the sequel to this story.
I’m not a big fan of romance. The story has to interest me, first and foremost. Once I begin reading it has to hold my interest, or I just skip the end just to see how it finishes. Such was not the case with Eve’s Amulet. Carole Avila knows how to weave a story. She also knows how to do research and it all shows in the pages of this book. The story overflows with historical details that set the time and place.
The pages turned quickly in this one for me and I think everyone that reads it will also find it an enjoyable, quick read. Two men, a new life and a trip 165 years in the past.
Looking for a good read? Like romances with a twist? How about a time travel romance with historical accuracy that takes place in 1845 Texas? May I recommend this one? Eve’s Amulet Book 1 is a satisfying read, it is able to hold the reader’s interest while taking one through twists and turns until it gets to the finish and then, it leaves an opening that leads to book 2. I don’t know about you, but I’m anxiously waiting for that next book.

Very entertaining about time travel.
Wow! A superb read from start to finish. I could not put this book down. Each and every character is well developed and the colorful, creative, and evocative detail makes each scene come to life. Mandy is such a feisty woman who knows how to land on her feet even in the craziest of situations like finding herself in the past in another woman's body responsible for the very lives of strangers. By itself Eves Amulet is a great book but I'm excited there is going to be a second one. I sure hope Nicole can handle herself as good as her cousin where ever she is going. Can't wait to find out!
Although I usually read only biographies or historical books, I read this one on the advice of a friend as it involved some time travel, mixed in with a little romance, and western history. Found it quite interesting as I was trying to recall my Texas history and how that matched up with the fictionalization the author created in her novel. She did an outstanding job and kept my interest as I found it hard to lay this book down for long.
Recommend this as light reading and I am definitely looking forward to reading the sequels in what is promised to be at least a 6 book series.

I have known the Author since 1977 and we are very good friends. I saw the rough draft of this book way before it was published and was so excited to learn that it has finally been published.
